Building a global financing coordination mechanism for sustainable school meals

The article, written by a group of experts coordinated by Mohamed Abdiweli Ahmed, Betty Kibaara, and Kevin Watkins, and authored by Juliana Tângari, director of Comida do Amanhã (Food of Tomorrow), in the context of the Brookings Institution’s 17 Rooms initiative, discusses the need to create a global mechanism for coordinating funding for sustainable school feeding programs. Based on an analysis of how school feeding can drive multiple Sustainable Development Goals, such as hunger eradication, education, and nutrition, the authors argue that current fragmented and insufficient funding needs to be better aligned and expanded through more structured international cooperation in order to reach more children with nutritious meals by 2030.
