Themes

The Comida do Amanhã Institute adopts a systemic approach to fostering fairer and more sustainable food systems, interconnecting themes such as food security, climate change, governance, biodiversity and the strengthening of local economies.

Through programs such as PNAE Agroecológico, which promotes family farming in schools, the Amazônia nas Escolas program, which incorporates food from the local socio-biodiversity into school meals, and LUPPA, which supports the formulation of integrated public food policies, we seek to strengthen social participation and ensure access to healthy food. Initiatives such as the COP30 Food Initiative Coalition address the interactions between climate and food, while the Alimenta Cidades Strategy promotes food democracy, and Poliniza uses food stories to raise awareness about the future of food systems.

By integrating these actions, we work to position food as a central pillar of sustainable, democratic, and resilient public policies. .

SCHOOL MEALS

School meals are an essential tool to ensure food and nutritional security for children and adolescents, in addition to contributing to local agriculture and promoting healthy eating habits from an early age. The Comida do Amanhã Institute is engaged in strengthening public policies that ensure the provision of balanced, sustainable and culturally appropriate meals, with a focus on the National School Meals Program (PNAE). We work in the production and dissemination of knowledge, in research and case studies, in the articulation of networks and in the encouragement of initiatives that expand social participation and transparency in the management of school meals.

GovernanCE

Governance of food systems is essential for the development of effective and sustainable public policies, ensuring that different actors – civil society, governments and the private sector – take part with transparency and in a democratic manner. Comida do Amanhã fosters debates on food governance structures, promoting spaces for dialogue, knowledge production and political influence to strengthen participatory mechanisms and the implementation of regulatory frameworks that favor more equitable and sustainable food systems.

ClimaTE AND biodiversiTY

The relation between food systems, climate change, and biodiversity is central to ensuring environmental resilience and future food security. Comida do Amanhã works to highlight the impacts of the agri-food model on climate and ecological crises, promoting regenerative practices, valuing socio-biodiversity and building policies that integrate food, climate justice and the environment. We believe that a sustainable food system must be aligned with the preservation of ecosystems and adaptation to climate change.

EAT LOCAL

Valorizar o Enhancing local trade means strengthening regional economies, reducing environmental impacts, and ensuring access to healthy and culturally appropriate food. The Comida do Amanhã Institute encourages the establishment of short marketing chains, promoting the protagonism of family farmers and the diversification of agroecological production. We believe that connecting producers and consumers is essential to foster food sovereignty, preserve traditional knowledge, and create more resilient and sustainable food systems.

FOOD DemocracY

Comida do Amanhã works to promote the human right to adequate food, to advocate for inclusive public policies and to strengthen social participation in decision-making processes on food and nutrition. We work to broaden the discussion on food justice and to ensure that voices from different societal sectors are heard in the development of solutions for a more equitable food system.
