The Comida do Amanhã Institute is a pre-finalist for the Food Planet Prize 2025, the world’s largest award with financial prizes for organizations committed to transforming food systems. Each year, the Food Planet Prize honors innovative solutions that demonstrate an aptitude to accelerate the transition to sustainable food systems over a 10-year period. In 2022, Comida do Amanhã was nominated on the same list for the 2023 award.

This stage brings together a list of 39 initiatives from 23 countries, after rounds of selection, research and evaluation of almost a thousand nominations for the award. These are organizations that exemplify the importance of technical expertise combined with social and sustainable analysis.

The launch of this list precedes a series of steps: now, the selected initiatives will be thoroughly analyzed and selected for a shorter list. The finalist initiatives – those with the greatest impact and chances of expanding their activities to a global level – will be presented in March 2025, and the jury will select the winning initiative in June of the same year.

For the director of Comida do Amanhã, Juliana Tângari, international awards and recognition, regardless of the final prize, are very important to highlight the work we are carrying out in Brazil. They show that our agenda – better urban food systems – is definitely a globally relevant agenda. “In addition, the recognition of our effort and dedication is always very welcome, because everything we do is the result of both the hard work of a tireless team and of generous partnerships, which shows that collaboration is our greatest strength”, she remarked.

The award is the Curt Bergfors Foundation’s main tool to encourage changemakers and promote revolutionary initiatives in the field of food systems. The term “Food Planet” was chosen to relate global food systems to the spheres of the Earth system: the geosphere (earth), the hydrosphere (water), the atmosphere (air), and the biosphere (all living things, including us humans). According to the Foundation, in addition to awarding the most outstanding initiative, the goal is to give attention and support the growth of all pre-finalist organizations.

Comida do Amanhã is one of the five organizations selected in Latin America and one of the two Brazilian initiatives on the list, alongside Gastromotiva, another organization that does excellent and impactful work in Brazil. See all the nominated initiatives here.
