PNAE Agroecológico fosters agroecology in school meals in the Brazilian public school system through the National School Meals Program (PNAE).

Agroecological transition in the National School Meals Program

PNAE Agroecológico is a program carried out by Comida do Amanhã Institute in partnership with Regenera Institute and Fome Zero Institute with institutional support from the Center of Excellence against Hunger of the World Food Programme (WFP) and support from the Rockefeller Foundation. It promotes the transition to agroecology in family farming, strengthening opportunities for incentives to small producers and institutional arrangements for municipal administrators, by expanding the supply of agroecological foods in school meals.

The project operates on two fronts: developing pilot projects in up to four Brazilian cities by studying local food systems and proposing solutions to facilitate the procurement of agroecological foods; and analyzing the regulation of the PNAE to propose improvements that consolidate the agroecological transition in Brazil.
