SOFI 2023 Results and the Brazilian Context
Presentation given during the LUPPA Seminar held on July 26, 2023, for members of the LUPPA Community. The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI) is a flagship annual report prepared jointly by FAO, IFAD, UNICEF, WFP, and WHO to report on progress toward eradicating hunger, achieving food security, and improving nutrition, and to provide an in-depth analysis of the main challenges to achieving this goal in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The report is aimed at a wide audience, including policymakers, international organizations, academic institutions, and the general public.
The seminar was led by João Intini, Food Systems Policy Officer at FAO Americas. João previously served at the Ministry of Agrarian Development as a technical advisor to the office of the Secretary of Family Farming, acting director, and general coordinator for the promotion of technical assistance and rural extension at the Secretariat of Family Farming. Intini also served as director of DECOM—the department for support to the procurement and marketing of family farming production—within the Secretariat of Food and Nutritional Security of the Ministry of Social Development, and as director of Agricultural Policy and Information at the National Supply Company.
