Agroecological foods from the Amazon on the table at COP 30
Na Mesa da COP30 seeks to ensure that agroecological foods from Amazonian sociobiodiversity are served at COP30, which will be held in Belém do Pará, in 2025. The goal is to provide healthy, affordable, and agroecological food for the Conference teams, highlighting nutrition as part of the solution to the climate crisis and leaving a lasting legacy for local food systems. The initiative focuses on engaging key actors to influence the procurement and bidding process for conference food, on mapping the productive base to identify producers and foods for supply to COP30, and on a front of communication and engagement with civil society.
Based on the experience of COP30, the initiative aims to leave a legacy for the strengthening of public policies that support family farming (influencing food systems at local, national and international levels, reducing emissions and promoting food socio-biodiversity), as well as to broaden the discussion on food within the global climate agenda and to influence future climate conferences, which may be inspired by the Brazilian example.
