This is not (only) a cookbook
Year in effect: 2020
This project emerged from the desire to drive a paradigm shift: to rethink food systems by valuing Brazilian food culture and recognizing the urgency of building a fairer, healthier and more sustainable future. The publication “This is not (only) a cookbook – it’s a way to change the world” combines recipes, traditional knowledge and science to address the main challenges of the current food system in Brazil in a sensitive and accessible way.
Carried out by the Comida do Amanhã Institute, in partnership with the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO) and the Heinrich Böll Foundation, the project connects food, health and the environment with the transformative power of cooking and taste. Inspired by the report “Food, Health, Planet” by the EAT-Lancet commission, the publication proposes a contextualized approach to healthy and sustainable diets, recognizing the diversity of food practices across the Brazilian territory.
The work, which won the international Gourmand Awards 2020 as the best book in the world in the category “Publications with Universities”, was translated into English and Spanish, expanding its impact and global reach. More than a publication, the project is an invitation to rethink, cook and transform, placing food at the center of change.
