EAT LOCAL
Enhancing local trade means strengthening regional economies, reducing environmental impacts, and ensuring access to healthy and culturally appropriate food. The Comida do Amanhã Institute encourages the establishment of short marketing chains, promoting the protagonism of family farmers and the diversification of agroecological production. We believe that connecting producers and consumers is essential to foster food sovereignty, preserve traditional knowledge, and create more resilient and sustainable food systems.
In the field of promoting the consumption of local foods, the program Amazônia nas Escolas stands out for encouraging the inclusion of foods from the Amazon socio-biodiversity in school meals. The initiative supports regional ingredients, strengthens short marketing chains and leverages the production of family farming, ensuring that the foods consumed in schools reflect the local food culture. In addition to reducing dependence on ultra-processed products and long supply chains, the program encourages the preservation of traditional knowledge and the sustainability of the region’s agri-food systems.
