Food and Sustainability #62: What is COP 30’s legacy for food systems?

In the episode “What is COP30’s legacy for food systems?” of the Food and Sustainability podcast by Jornal da USP, Francine Xavier, director of the Food of Tomorrow Institute, and Fabrício Muriana, director of the Regenera Institute, discuss how the debate on food gained prominence at COP30.

Drawing on their experience at the conference, the guests reflect on the presence of agri-food systems in the negotiations and side events, highlighting civil society mobilization, the coordination of organizations and movements, and the importance of including the voices of family farmers and traditional peoples and communities in climate discussions.

The conversation also addresses the progress made in the COP’s final documents and the paths forward to ensure that the transformation of food systems continues to be recognized as part of the solutions to the climate crisis. As Francine emphasizes, maintaining and expanding civil society’s participation in future COPs will be essential for this debate to continue moving forward.
